New A-Alikes Video Person of Interest Featured on Okayplayer.com

(Brooklyn, NY) – Brooklyn heavyweight rap duo A-Alikes (NE$$ & K) release their new music video “Person Of Interest”. This is the group’s third music video from the EP Us Against Them, which is available at iTunes via Hard Boiled Records and Guerilla Nation. The project features appearances from M-1 of dead prez, Divine from The D.E.Y. and Raye 6. The video for “Person Of Interest’” confronts controversial issues of police brutality and racial profiling of people of color by law enforcement agencies and biased individuals in society. The video focuses on young Black and Latino men who have fallen victim to Stop and Frisk laws and other systematic injustices by authority agencies and individuals in society based on appearance and not actual crime. The video is dedicated to Oscar Grant and Jordan Davis, young Black men who have been killed unjustly by police authorities without just cause or reason. As well, Trayvon Martin, an unarmed young Black male who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, a gun armed civilian who suspected Martin of being a criminal based on assumption and appearance and   the recent death of Staten Island resident Eric Garner, who died after NYPD officers and emergency workers placed him in an illegal chokehold during an arrest for allegedly selling untaxed cigarettes. The video directed by Solace of Buendia Productions More on Okayplayer.com Shout out to them!

“Exodus RBG” aims to spark dialogue and build community through Hip Hop. Directed by Divine RBG, it places a critical lens on The Bronx and the resilience of its people. Featuring performances by Divine RBG, Intikana, Get Down (from Inglewood, CA) and Ness ( A-Alikes). This is the first music video response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Control.” Much love and respect to all five boroughs. Both coasts and all sides of the planet.

Brooklyn-bred emcee, singer and actor, Tuan X, is using his music to make change.
Witty, introspective and revealing, Tuan X utilizes an out of the box approach to branding in titling his albums (three to date) after classic English literature: “Of Mice And Men” (EP), a collaboration with a few of New York’s profound emcees; “The Piano Lesson” (EP), a Pop album centering on love, loss and realization; and most recently, “A Tale Of Two Cities” (EP), an album inspired by his recent tour of London and his visit toFrance.

Tuan X has graced the stages of various venues and institutions such as City Hall, collegiate auditoriums, the legendary Apollo Theater, Hard Rock Café, The Shrine, Santos, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and countless more. His international travels have brought him to the UK, France, Canada (performing for the Canadian Music Week Festival) and South Africa (featuring on VOX, Africa TV’s “Shoot The Messenger.”).
Tuan X has applied his artistry to both entertainment and his philanthropic ventures; being an avid supporter of the ASPCA, Tuan X has performed at their events geared toward raising awareness and helping to prevent cruelty to animals. He donates the profits from sales at his online store to foundations which support the causes he supports. He has run in numerous marathons for Cancer Research, including a 72-flight stair climb, and with the WWE in the Susan G. Komen, Race For A Cure.
Tuan X’s cultured background is his inspiration: living in Brooklyn, California and Virginia, while holding family ties in North and South Carolina, has greatly affected the essence and substance of his music, “Various genres and forms of expression have helped to frame the method and delivery of my art,” he says.

Celebrating the unrivaled impact of this creative genius, DJ/Producer (and composer for the recently Emmy-awarded film The Doctor) J.PERIOD presents The Legacy of James Brown, an epic 80-minute journey through the life and music of the Godfather of Soul. Remixing over 60 JB classics, The Legacy of James Brown plays like a wall-to-wall musical treasure hunt of hip hop samples and sound bytes-a narrated musical tour for new generation of fans unfamiliar with hip hop’s true Founding Father. One listen and it becomes clear: James Brown influenced… everyone.
“The Legacy of James Brown has been my most ambitious project to date,” states J.PERIOD, “and it has also been the ultimate reminder of James Brown’s truly pervasive impact on modern music. Remixing the JB catalog sparks a powerful realization: all the music that has most inspired my career-hip-hop, soul, funk, Prince, MJ, Fela and more-is the direct result of James Brown’s genius. I hope my tribute can inspire a new generation of artists to explore the legacy of this musical giant.”
Produced in J.PERIOD’s signature music-meets-narrative style, The Legacy of James Brown features interviews and sound bytes with fellow music legends Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Afrika Bambaata, Rakim and more. The result – a seamless fusion of James Brown’s music and life story – has already sparked rave reviews from music icon/social media powerhouse Questlove, world-renowned DJ Jazzy Jeff and more!

On Saturday, June 7th, Massive Selector, fresco & Keistar Productions present the 9th installment of a Bay Area summer tradition. SOUL SLAM SF: PRINCE AND MICHAEL JACKSON returns to MEZZANINE for the ultimate tribute to pop music’s biggest icons! This year we turn our focus to “The Purple One,” as SOUL SLAM falls on PRINCE’s actual birthday (Yup! Prince Rogers Nelson was born on June 7, 1958.) On top of that, this is the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain, so you know we’ll be tipping our hat to one of the greatest entertainers of our generation… Come and celebrate this thing called the LIFE and MUSIC of BOTH Michael Jackson and Prince by dancing your BUTT off at SOUL SLAM! Party goers and music lovers alike know that SOUL SLAM is more than just a party… It’s an experience!

Giant Step Presents DJ Spinna at Le Bain
Monday, June 9
Le Bain at The Standard, New York NY
We kicked off our Summer rooftop series at Le Bain on May 12th with Electric Punanny (aka Jasmine Solano & MeLo-X), who kept the dance floor jumping into the late night. We’re excited about our next installment with one of the original Giant Step family members, DJ Spinna. If you missed our May party you don’t want to sleep on our next party in June, with Summer in full swing we plan on keeping you sweaty for the rest of the season!
