WEEKEND MONEY RELEASES MIDNIGHT BUZZ-HEAVY VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “INSOMNIAC”-DEBUT EP NAKED CITY DUE OUT JUNE 5
(April 17, 2012 - New York, NY) – The predictable hip-hop landscape has just gotten more enthralling with the video premiere of Weekend Money’s “Insomniac.” The musical visual is the first release from their much-anticipated, upcoming EP Naked City. The new black and white clip, directed by the Roots’ affiliated lensman Zach Isaac, features the groundbreaking duo of acclaimed lyricist Ness and producer extraordinaire Baghdaddy in their non-conforming element. For the Brooklyn, New York-based act, its at once serious, but trippy; ‘hood, but decadent. A straight-no-chaser smiley face in a haze of smoke amid artists, thugs, model chicks, around-the-way-girls, and rebels.
“We live in the proverbial city that never sleeps, right?” says Ness of the thought-process that went into writing the treatment for the ‘Insomniac’ video. “That’s what it’s all about. There are a lot of things that go on in New York from the wild party scenes to grinding for that bread. We wanted to film it in black and white to stay away from that polished tone because life is not polished. This shit ain’t Hollywood.”
For Baghdaddy, the “Insomniac” clip symbolizes the culmination of a project that was first sparked a little over a year ago when the Philadelphia born Ness—a member of the dead prez affiliated group A-Alikes—first hooked up with the Hot Sugar protégé. “People can now visually see the dynamic of Weekend Money,” he excitedly says. “Ness and I put so much time and aggression into this project. We’ve done so much in such a short time…things that make us excited as music fans. This is the kind of music we want to hear on the radio and on the streets.”
Indeed, “Insomniac” captures the unique hybrid sound of Weekend Money. The eerie, trippy, hard-charging track comes off like Death Row era Dr. Dre dropping acid with Kraftwerk on the streets of New York. The electro-synth heavy cut swaggers with hardcore hip-hop credentials yet still colors outside the lines. It’s a provocative sound that was first born when the two met during the making of Ness’ recently released EYE2025* EP, a conceptual project that merged the reflective, hardboiled, and no-nonsense rhyming of Ness with the ‘80s pop, funk and rock synthesized mash-ups of Baghdaddy.
And Weekend Money is staying on their grind. The duo, which Okayplayer.com calls “something wicked,” is set to drop
Naked City on June 5. Let’s go!

Paul Mooney in Seattle this Friday. Going to be a good one!!!
The legendary and continually relevant Paul Mooney is coming to Seattle! Venomous hilarity and social defiance are Paul Mooney’s trademark style. Most recently Mooney became the first comedian to produce a pay-per-view standup special - “The Godfather of Comedy” - currently airing on Showtime.
And, as the name of this special alludes to, Mooney is truly the most important and influential comedian of the 20th and 21st century.
People say Paul Mooney has one of the most dangerous and brilliant comic minds of our time. As a writer, his resume - Saturday Night Live, The Richard Pryor Show, Sanford and Son, In Living Color, Good Times - covers all of the major TV comedies of the 20th century. As a performer, “Negrodamus,” “Ask a Black Dude” and “Mooney at the Movies” from Chappelle’s Show, “Sam Cooke” in The Buddy Holly Story, “Junebug” from Bamboozled (to name a few), is equally impressive. This is without taking into account his world-renowned standup routines: Race (1993), Master Piece (1994), Analyzing White America (2004), Know Your History: Jesus Is Black and So Was Cleopatra (2006), It’s the End of the World (2010), Shaquille O’Neal’s All-Star Comedy Jam (2010), and The Godfather of Comedy (2011) - currently airing on Showtime. Mooney has been a maverick in the business taking risks with his material for over five decades. Known as an uncompromising social critic, Mooney has publicly analyzed the issue of race in America from the Civil Rights Era onward.
Born in Louisiana but raised in Oakland, CA, Paul Mooney spent his early comedic years as a ringmaster for the Gatti-Charles Circus. However, he soon got a break writing a sketch for Richard Pryor to appear on Saturday Night Live. You may not have realized it, but Paul Mooney’s genius has been making you laugh from the time you were a child. As Co-author of Richard Pryor’s classic comedy albums, Live on the Sunset Strip, Bicentennial Nigger, and Is It Something I Said,. Paul Mooney also was the brains behind Pryor’s film Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling. His work as the head writer for The Richard Pryor Show broke new talent such as: Robin Williams, Sandra Bernhard, Marsha Warfield, John Witherspoon, and Tim Reid.
Mooney currently lives in Oakland with his family.
